Lens Test – Nikkor 105mm F2 DC vs. Nikkor 80-200mm F2.8 AF – Lateral Chromatic Aberration (LaCA)

Nikkor 105mm F2 versus 80-200mm F2.8 AF Lateral Chromatic Aberration Test. Now it is time to test the lateral chromatic aberration, this time with a different test image. Conditions of the settings on camera are shown in the image captions. Everything else has been fixed. Slight error in the exact focal length for the zoom lens. Camera used is Nikon D810, RAW file capture. Images examined in Adobe Lightroom.

It is again clear the zoom lens has substantially less lateral chromatic aberration. But to quantify it, a more vigorous test setup is need, and higher quality test print. This test is good to first approximation to qualitatively see the difference between both lenses. You could argue that the zoom lens is slightly sharper too in terms of resolution.
